🚨 Concerned about someone in contact with a child? You can request a police check to ensure their history is safe. 🚨

If you suspect a child might be at risk from someone they have contact with, you can ask the police to check whether that person has past offences. You don’t need to be related to the child; any concerned individual can make this request if the person has enough access to potentially harm the child.

🔍 How do you do it?
Just call 101 or visit your local police station. Some areas even allow online requests. Remember, you need to provide your name, contact details, and explain your relationship to the child.

⏱️ How long does it take?
A full check can take up to 28 days, but if there’s immediate danger, the police will act straight away. Within the first 24 hours, they’ll work on a plan to keep communicating safely. Within 10 days, you’ll need to show ID and proof of your connection to the child during a meeting or call.
🤝 Who finds out?
If relevant information is discovered, police decide who needs to know, usually prioritising those best positioned to safeguard the child like parents or guardians. If it’s safe, they might inform the person being checked, possibly including the fact that you initiated the inquiry.
Your actions could safeguard a child’s wellbeing. Never hesitate to act if there’s immediate danger—dial 999. Stay informed and proactive! ✨
