A shocking incident at a Carmarthenshire care home has caught the attention of a Social Care Wales panel. Cerys Nomi, a support worker at The Rookery care home, allegedly engaged in inappropriate behaviour with a vulnerable resident. Eyewitness Amanda Hands described how Nomi allowed the resident, referred to as “user A,” to grind against her while laughing, rather than using de-escalation techniques to stop him.

Ms Hands shared her account of the event stating how user A, who was playing with sensory toys, became overly excited by Nomi’s actions, as she shimmied and intertwined her legs with his. After the incident, another staff member returned from a cigarette break and took over looking after user A, while Nomi casually walked away.

Ms Hands also mentioned that Nomi frequently displayed such behaviour, pushing her breasts forward around male residents. Although she hadn’t reported these incidents before, recent safeguarding training prompted her to report this case to the management. Nomi has now been dismissed from her role by Bramble Bay, the care home’s operator.

As the hearing continues, this highlights the crucial importance of appropriate staff behaviour and safeguarding in care settings. What are your thoughts on how situations like this should be handled?
