Heartbreaking news from Bridgend. Gareth Humphreys, a 75-year-old ex-police officer and Ministry of Defence employee, was caught with over 5,000 indecent images of a young girl. Disturbingly, he urged her to distrust authority figures like the police, saying they wouldn’t believe her.

The shocking discovery was made after the brave victim confided in friends, prompting police involvement. With 700 unique images found on laptops and phones, this case has left the community in utter disbelief.

In court, the victim’s mother shared the devastating impact this has had on her daughter, revealing her struggle with guilt and trauma. She described how this betrayal robbed her child of her innocence and family connection.
Humphreys, who served 30 years in the police and had a ‘good character’, pleaded guilty to making indecent images. Despite his claims that the images were ‘innocuous’, the court saw through his excuses. His internet searches revealed disturbing interests, further dispelling any notion of innocence.
Recorder Aidan Eardley KC condemned his actions as sexually motivated and manipulative. Although Humphreys received a 24-month suspended sentence, he must fulfil a 25-day rehabilitation activity and comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and restraining order for 10 years.
This case highlights the chilling reality that those we trust can sometimes betray us in the worst ways. Let’s stand by the victim and her family as they navigate this painful journey towards healing. Remember, speaking out makes a difference. 💔 #JusticeForVictims #TrustAwareness #CommunitySupport
