Exciting news for Swansea! The green light has been given for the final phase of the Hendrefoilan Park development in Sketty, bringing 92 new homes to the area. This includes a mix of two, three, and four-bedroom houses, plus a new play area for the community to enjoy.

This major development, initially once a bustling student village, is transforming into a vibrant residential space. While much of the original woodland is being preserved, 48 trees will need to make way for the new homes. Fear not, though, as three new trees will be planted for every one removed!

Planning concerns included managing dust during construction and ensuring the completion of key footpaths. Cllr Mary Jones voiced concerns about the upkeep of construction site cleanliness and fulfilled promises, like the footpath to Dunvant Road which locals have already started using informally.
The development is set to feature 248 houses in total, 25 of which will be affordable homes. As part of a legal agreement, the developers have invested in local infrastructure, including substantial funds for the enhancement of Hendrefoilan Primary School and a nearby road junction.
Bats have also decided that this location is superb, with some roosting in the buildings set for demolition. Rest assured, bat mitigation plans are in place, including the need for a special bat licence from Natural Resources Wales.
Cllr Jones and locals are keen to see the play area completed before the end of this development phase, and the planning committee has made it a condition for the developer to abide by. The community’s determination is clear: if something needs doing, it’s expected to be done!
With unanimous approval from the council committee, this “much-needed” housing scheme promises to deliver a sustainable and excellent living environment. What are your thoughts on the new development? Let us know in the comments! 🏡🌳
