Exciting news for all rugby fans! The Scarlets are boosting their line-up with the powerhouse signing of Alex Groves from the Stormers. Standing tall at 6ft 9in, this South African-born giant is all set to bring serious size and physicality to our pack next season.
Groves, a former England U20s Grand Slam winner, has already given us a glimpse of his potential during our South African tour earlier this year. With experience at Bristol Bears, Sale Sharks, and the Stormers, Alex is a seasoned line-out operator with a strong set-piece game. At 25, he’s joining us at a prime stage in his career, and we couldn’t be more thrilled!
Nigel Davies, our interim director of rugby, shares why Groves was a no-brainer addition: “We needed a player with Alex’s stature and athleticism, but what sold us was his eagerness to compete and grow. Strengthening the tight five is a top priority, and Alex ticks all the boxes.”
Groves is equally pumped about the move: “Joining the Scarlets permanently is a thrilling new challenge. My time on loan gave me a real feel for the camaraderie and ambition within the squad. I’m eager to contribute and push myself further.”
With seasoned players like Sam Lousi and promising talents in the mix, Alex is poised to spark some healthy competition within our second-row group, driving standards and lifting performances. We’re eager for Alex to reunite with the team in Llanelli so we can get started on an epic pre-season!
Stay tuned for all the latest updates as we gear up for another thrilling season. Let’s give Alex a warm welcome to the Scarlets family! 🏉❤️
