🩺 Big news from the NHS! Starting 1st September, adults aged 65 to 74 with chronic health issues can get a free jab against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) – a virus that’s more dangerous than you might think! Once shrugged off as a simple cold culprit, RSV can wreak havoc, especially in the elderly or those with existing lung conditions such as COPD.

Why does this matter? Well, while the virus is widespread and often caught multiple times in a lifetime, it can lead to serious complications like pneumonia or bronchiolitis in vulnerable groups, landing many in hospital. The good news? This jab cuts the risk of severe RSV complications. 💉

Wondering how to get yours? From September, eligible folks can book their jab through their GP. Don’t wait for the invite; reach out and secure your spot! Conveniently, it’s also available at select pharmacies in Essex, Suffolk, and other areas, so you might skip the GP queue altogether.
For those already qualified, like the 75+ crowd and expecting mothers, nothing’s changed. Pregnant women can receive the jab around their 28-week antenatal visit, safeguarding their little one for the crucial first six months.
Just one dose offers years of protection, unlike those seasonal flu jabs, and can typically be administered alongside other vaccines. Note: It’s not given with the flu jab unless necessary.
Safety first! The jab, branded as Abrysvo, boasts a solid safety record approved by the MHRA. Typical side effects are mild – think sore arm or headache. Severe reactions are rare, but if you’ve had allergic reactions to vaccines before, consult your doctor.
