The expansion of Ysgol Iolo Morganwg primary school in Cowbridge has hit a new financial milestone! The ongoing project, which will see the school double its capacity from 210 to 420 places and add space for 96 part-time nursery spots, now stands at over £22 million—up by more than £4 million. This increase covers unexpected site conditions, market changes, and essential construction needs like storm drainage and ground protection.

Kier Construction, the firm handling this transformation, has identified possible savings of around £180,000 to help manage costs. The expansion is set to roll out by September 2025, with the aim to create a larger, modern school facility that better serves the Cowbridge community.
The local council is pressing ahead with the project and has given the green light for the next stage with Kier. While costs have climbed due to rising prices of materials and labour, council leaders are optimistic. They believe the new school will be a valuable asset, benefitting all who attend.

The full business case is heading to Welsh Government early next year for final approvals. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development in Cowbridge!
