A former soldier has been jailed for 45 months after his disturbing fantasies about children were exposed during an undercover police operation. Steven Williams, 51, was caught after expressing desires to engage in illegal activities with a minor to an officer posing online as the child’s father.

The chilling details revealed in Cardiff Crown Court included messages where Williams discussed vile scenarios involving a fictitious 14-year-old girl, showing a dangerous interest in “breeding” and wanting to be the “pervy uncle.” The exchanges spanned over 46 days on various apps, but the connection was often rekindled by the undercover officer, showcasing Williams’ disturbing willingness.

A pre-sentence report branded Williams as a dangerous offender with an uncontrollable preference for young girls, presenting a significant risk to the community. With no previous convictions, Williams’ arrest came as a shock, especially considering his service in the Army and current employment as an HGV driver. Friends and family offered character references, but the severity of the crime led to his inevitable imprisonment.

Sentenced to serve half of his term in prison before being released on licence, Williams will remain a registered sex offender for life, and faces an indefinite sexual harm prevention order. This case underscores the critical work of undercover operations in catching offenders before they can harm vulnerable individuals.
