**Major Disruption as Pembrokeshire Rail Line Closes for Urgent Repairs**

Residents and travellers in west Wales are being warned of significant disruption following the temporary closure of a key railway line in Pembrokeshire. The closure, which is set to last for ten days, comes amid urgent safety repairs after a track defect was discovered between Pembroke and Pembroke Dock stations.

Transport for Wales confirmed that the damaged section of rail has forced them to halt all train services between the two stations. The disruption, which began on Monday, is expected to persist until at least midnight on Thursday, 31st July. Train services that would normally continue to Pembroke Dock are instead being terminated at Pembroke, due to safety concerns.
A spokesperson for Transport for Wales explained, “For safety reasons, trains cannot operate between Pembroke and Pembroke Dock until the necessary repairs to the track have been completed. We regret the disruption this causes, but passenger safety is our top priority.”
In response to the closure, a replacement bus service has been organised to ensure passengers can continue their journeys with minimal inconvenience. Buses, operated by Francis Mini Travel, will shuttle between the two stations during the closure period, at no extra charge to customers. Signage at the affected stations provides details about the temporary transport arrangements, and further information is available online.
Passengers are being advised to check station posters or visit the Transport for Wales website for the most up-to-date details regarding pick-up points and revised schedules. Additionally, trains departing Pembroke towards Carmarthen will be held to coordinate with the arrival of passengers using the replacement bus service, aiming to reduce further delays along the line.
Pembroke Dock station, constructed in 1864 and known for its quaint stone architecture, typically sees around 50,000 passenger journeys annually. The route is particularly important for local residents and tourists alike, as well as for accessing the town’s independent shops, popular eateries, and regular high street stores.
The closure is expected to have a considerable impact on the daily travel plans of both commuters and visitors to the area. Pembrokeshire, a county famed for its scenic beauty and vibrant communities, relies heavily on its rail connections, especially during the busy summer holiday period.
Commuters have expressed understanding about the safety concerns, but the timing has caused frustration for those making summer travel plans. Some local businesses are also bracing for the knock-on effects, as reliable transport is vital for customer and staff journeys.
Transport for Wales has apologised for the disruption, reassuring the public that every effort is being made to restore services as quickly and safely as possible. The authority encourages affected passengers to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time, especially when making onward connections.
As the repair works progress, Transport for Wales has pledged to keep the public regularly updated. Travellers are encouraged to monitor official communication channels for further announcements.
In summary, while the temporary closure represents a significant challenge for the community and visitors, rail authorities insist the measures are necessary to guarantee long-term safety and reliability. The incident underscores the importance of diligent infrastructure maintenance in ensuring safe public transport networks across Wales.
