🔥 Devastation in the Valleys! 🔥

A huge wildfire near Penrhys in Rhondda has left the landscape charred and blackened, with smoke visible for miles around. Starting late Wednesday night, the fire crept dangerously close to homes, prompting the evacuation of 14 properties as firefighters worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.

Called to the scene shortly after 11:30 pm, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service faced a tough battle against steep terrain and strong winds. The flames covered a vast 3 square kilometres, even moving down towards Llwynypia. Crews from multiple stations, including Gilfach Goch, Aberdare, and Tonypandy, joined forces to tackle the inferno, finally extinguishing it by 5 am Thursday morning.
Although residents have been allowed to return to their homes, they’re still being advised to keep windows and doors closed due to lingering smoke in the area.
South Wales Police also played a crucial role, managing road closures as the fire raged on. Penrhys Road was reopened before 4 am as the situation came under control.
As the region starts to recover, the charred hillside stands as a stark reminder of the night’s events. Stay safe everyone, and let’s extend our gratitude to the brave firefighters and police officers who worked through the night to protect the community.
Stay tuned for updates and stay safe, Rhondda! 💛🚒
