Heartbreaking news from the rugby community. Scot James, a beloved player from Maesteg, sadly passed away on 26th July after an alleged assault while holidaying in Turkey. At just 34, Scot was taken too soon, leaving a void in the lives of his family and friends.

His family shared a touching tribute, describing Scot as a “loving father, son, grandson, and partner” whose kindness and sense of humour touched many. They expressed their heartache, sharing that his warmth and ability to bring people together left a lasting impact on everyone he met. Scot will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

While Turkish authorities, supported by the Foreign Office, are investigating the tragic incident, Scot’s local rugby club, Maesteg Celtic RFC, also paid tribute, remembering him as an outstanding player and a great character. The club recently hosted a football tournament to help raise funds.

The family has launched a GoFundMe page to support ongoing expenses, and they are grateful for the overwhelming support they’ve received. They’re requesting privacy as they grieve this immense loss and begin to heal.
Scot’s story is a sombre reminder of life’s fragility, but his memory will live on through the love and joy he brought to his friends and family. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
