Pontrhydyfen’s Annual Scarecrow Festival brought a splash of colour and creativity to this quaint Welsh village! Imagine strolling through gardens where scarecrows inspired by musicals such as Cats, Willy Wonka, and The Little Mermaid come to life, captivating all who see them. With around 40 entries this year, locals embraced their inner artist to transform the village into a fantasy world of stage and screen characters.

Organised by the Burton Bont Festival Group, this year’s theme celebrated musicals in honour of Ivor Emmanuel, whose likeness now adorns a local pub in a stunning mural. The event wasn’t just about fun, though; it aimed to raise funds for refurbishing the children’s park.

Andrea Edwards, chairwoman of the group, described the event as a bit mad but full of daft fun, and it’s safe to say the residents agree! From family classics to shows worthy of the West End, each scarecrow told its own story.
Supported by a small community grant, 6km of bunting danced along the streets, guiding visitors through this whimsical display, while residents beamed with pride at their heartfelt contributions.
Missed it this time? Make sure to visit Pontrhydyfen next June, and you can experience firsthand how this small village honours its creative roots, leaving lasting smiles along the way! 🌟
