Tragic night in Bloxwich, Walsall, as a man in his 50s lost his life and seven others, including emergency service workers, were treated for a suspected carbon monoxide leak at a local takeaway. The incident occurred around 9:40 pm on Friday, drawing a swift response from emergency services.

Cara Jackson, who works next door, witnessed the tragic scene as medics valiantly attempted CPR to save the man’s life. “I saw everything, and it’s left me a bit shaken,” she shared. Residents and workers were evacuated as tests were carried out, with some needing hospital treatment. Cara reflected on how lucky she was: “The fire brigade warned us that if we’d fallen asleep, we might not have woken up.”

After extensive checks, locals were finally allowed to return home in the early hours of Saturday morning. Councillor Michael Coulson informed the community on Facebook that a generator releasing toxic gases was at fault. He expressed deep sorrow over the incident, noting, “It’s so incredibly tragic what has happened.”
A small police presence remains in the area, and the shops have reopened. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this heartbreaking event. Stay safe, everyone, and ensure any gas appliances are regularly checked and maintained. 💔
