Thomas’s partner, Shelly Price, described him as “fit and healthy,” having climbed peaks like Yr Wyddfa and Cader Idris before. A fellow climber saw Thomas, accompanied by his spaniel with a 3-metre strap, trying to reach for his dog on a ridge. Sadly, both fell, but the dog survived.

Witnesses tried to help when the accident happened, but the situation was too precarious for CPR. Emergency services were called but could not save him. Thomas’s body was later airlifted away by search and rescue. The coroner concluded that it was a tragic accident.
