🏉🏴 Wales rugby hero Aled Davies plays with a special tribute every match—a nod to his late father, Huw. Aled’s dad battled encephalitis, a rare brain condition initially mistaken for the flu. 😔

It all began when Huw showed flu-like symptoms leading to a seizure. Despite multiple hospital visits, true diagnosis came only after it was almost too late. “It was extreme,” recalls Aled. He remembers vividly the helplessness of watching his dad dramatically decline.

Sadly, after years of challenges, Huw passed away following a separate fight with cancer. But his spirit lives on in Aled, fuelling his determination on and off the field. Aled is now on a mission to raise awareness about encephalitis, a condition affecting three people every minute worldwide.

🏥 Recognise the signs: flu symptoms, severe headache, memory issues, sudden seizures, and behavioural changes. Quick medical attention can make all the difference.
🗨️ Aled’s journey through the struggles with his father’s illness coincided with his budding rugby career. From Scarlets to his stellar season with Cardiff, he’s taken every field with pride and resilience, writing “Dad” on his wrist as a driving force to make him proud.
Now, he’s motivating a new generation of rugby talents while paving the way for greater understanding of encephalitis. 🌟🏆
Spread the word, and be vigilant. If something doesn’t feel right, see a doctor and persist—it could save a life.
💬 “Faced with such difficulties, you gain strength and perspective,” says Aled. Let’s ensure others don’t endure the same heartache by getting informed.
