You know her as the wife of tennis legend Novak Djokovic, but Jelena Djokovic’s life wasn’t always in the spotlight! From a comfortable upbringing in Serbia to facing the harsh reality of bankruptcy during her teenage years, Jelena’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. Her family’s financial struggles forced Jelena and her sister to relocate and adapt, but it was their mother’s relentless determination that left a mark.

“We went bankrupt,” Jelena revealed, crediting her mum’s strength and resilience for keeping the family afloat. She believes qualities like perseverance and independence are passed down, particularly from mothers. Her father also played a vital role, teaching them to never take anything for granted.

Despite the obstacles, Jelena pursued her dream of studying abroad, earning a scholarship to Bocconi University in Milan where she studied luxury brand management. Her drive didn’t stop there; she and Novak, who met in high school, made their long-distance relationship work against all odds.
Fast forward to 2013, they got engaged and married in a beautiful ceremony in Montenegro’s Sveti Stefan. Together, they have two children, Stefan and Tara, who often cheer on their dad from the stands during his major tournaments. Jelena, with her own remarkable journey, co-founded the Novak Djokovic Foundation, dedicated to supporting underprivileged children in Serbia.
Jelena’s story is a testament to the power of determination, resilience, and family. From overcoming financial hardships to building a life with one of tennis’s greatest, her journey proves you can indeed shape your destiny against all odds!
