🔥 Major Blaze at Aberthaw Power Station! 🔥

On Thursday morning, the former Aberthaw Power Station, near Rhoose in the Vale of Glamorgan, was engulfed in flames, creating a dramatic scene with thick smoke visible from afar. South Wales Fire and Rescue responded swiftly, with crews from numerous stations working tirelessly until midnight to control the fire.

At one point, it seemed like the blaze was under control, but the building, once Wales’ last coal-fired power station, reignited dramatically. Local residents were advised to keep their windows and doors shut to stay safe from the smoke.
Multiple teams from Ely, Llantwit Major, Kenfig Hill, and beyond were on the scene, equipped with eight fire trucks, water bowsers, and aerial platforms, among other specialised gear. Their dedication ensured the situation was finally resolved, with no lingering signs of heat or smoke detected the following morning.
The site is currently being redeveloped into a renewable energy park by Cardiff Capital Region Energy. Following the incident, they’ve confirmed all personnel are safe, and they expressed gratitude for the swift action of the emergency services and the supportive community.
Despite its closure in 2020, the power station continues to captivate attention as it transitions into a symbol of renewable energy for the future. Keep following for updates on this transformative project and the community’s journey to sustainable energy solutions. 💚
Stay safe, everyone! 💪 Thank you to all the firefighters and emergency responders for their incredible work! 🙏 #AberthawFire #CommunityHeroes #RenewableEnergy
