🚁🔥 Wildfire Update in Wales! 🔥🚁
Firefighters have been battling a massive blaze in Blaenavon since Sunday evening, covering 220 hectares of mixed terrain. The South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has now secured a perimeter around the fire to keep it contained, but crews are still on the scene, using specialist resources in the tough landscape.
Exciting news! A specialist firefighting helicopter is being deployed to Rhinogydd in North Wales to assist with another ongoing wildfire. Helicopters are in high demand across the UK, but this added support should be a big help in controlling the flames.
Important for residents: Smoke from wildfires can impact air quality in wide areas. Stay indoors when smoke is present, and keep windows and doors closed. If it’s safe and smoke has cleared, open windows to help cool and ventilate your home. Always have prescribed inhalers on hand, and if you feel unwell, contact NHS 111 or your local pharmacy.
The emergency response remains a huge team effort! Police are managing public safety and traffic, while Arson Reduction Teams and police are sharing fire prevention advice. Communities are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to Gwent Police at 101 or call 999 in case of active fires.
Thank you to all residents for your patience and support for our incredible emergency services. Let’s stay safe and take care of one another! Further updates will be shared through official channels, so stay tuned. 💪👩🚒🌿
