π£ Brace yourselves, Wales! π

First Minister Eluned Morgan has sounded the alarm π¨ over Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs, which could hit Welsh businesses hard. With the US President threatening up to a 25% tariff on goods from the UK by June 1st, it’s a tense moment for our economy.

Why the tariffs? Trump is pushing for a deal to buy Greenland from Denmark. Yep, you read that right! π¬π± Until then, he plans to target the UK and EU to push his agenda. This move has sparked a stern response from our First Minister, calling it an “unacceptable and aggressive act” by a nation we’ve long considered a friend.
Morgan is taking action! She’s reached out to Sir Keir Starmer over concerns of how these tariffs could squeeze more than 1,000 Welsh businesses, a significant chunk of our exports. This comes at a time when people across Wales are already grappling with the soaring cost of living.
Interestingly, Wales has strong economic ties with the US, hosting around 330 American companies that provide over 40,000 jobs. But as the First Minister pointed out, principles are essential. “It is the people of Greenland and Denmark who should determine its future,” she insists, emphasising the need for upholding international law.
The Prime Minister echoes a call for βcalm discussion,β asserting diplomacy over military action or trade wars.
Let’s hope for a peaceful resolution! ποΈ How do you think this will play out for our beloved Wales? Drop your thoughts below! π #WalesEconomy #TrumpTariffs #StandWithWales
