Drug Dealers Busted in Cardiff Flat Pay Back Pennies!

In a dramatic turn of events, Layton Preece, 51, and Dylan Young, 21, were caught red-handed in a Cardiff flat loaded with crack cocaine. The duo, alongside four others, were in full panic mode when the police unexpectedly dropped by the Grangetown flat, suspected of being a notorious ‘crack den’. And guess what? They were right!
The scene was pure chaos when a drug user knocked on the door only to run into a uniformed officer. Their reaction? A hasty exit, shouting, “The shop’s shut!”

After a thorough search, officers seized over £4,000 worth of class A drugs. Preece, who didn’t have a fixed address, confessed to possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply. Young also pleaded guilty to similar charges.
Fast forward to sentencing day at Cardiff Crown Court on February 20: Preece got 42 months behind bars; Young was given an 18-month sentence, suspended for 21 months.
In a recent Proceeds of Crime Act hearing, figures revealed a shocking contrast between their crime gains versus assets. Young allegedly pocketed £72,668 from his crimes, with only £546 in assets. Preece reportedly gained £6,101 yet had a mere £100 in assets.
Judge Vanessa Francis didn’t let them off the hook, ordering them to pay up their remaining assets—£600 combined—within 28 days or risk an extra seven days in jail.
Turns out, crime doesn’t always pay, or at least not as much as you might think!
