The devastating impact of abuse can last a lifetime. Kai Lewis, now 29, was recently sentenced for offences committed as a teenager, which left his victims struggling with severe emotional trauma.

Two brave survivors of Lewis’s actions spoke out, detailing the turmoil they experienced. One victim shared how the abuse robbed her of a normal childhood, leaving her with trust issues and severe mental health challenges. “I can’t form healthy relationships or trust men anymore,” she explained, recalling numerous attempts on her own life as she tried to cope with flashbacks and feelings of worthlessness.

The second victim described her ongoing battle with the memories, saying, “I feel scared of all men and can’t shake off the feeling of disgust in my own skin.” She bravely expressed hope for healing now that justice has been served.
Lewis, who was convicted of multiple counts of assault, including assault by penetration and engaging a child in sexual activity, denied the charges. However, the court found him guilty, recognising the grave impact his actions had on these young girls.
He’s been sentenced to four and a half years in prison and will be under strict legal restrictions, including a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Lewis’s case reminds us of the profound and lasting effects of abuse, and the courage it takes for survivors to come forward.
