Exciting times for Cardiff City as Under-21s boss Darren Purse is rumoured to be in the running for a return to Birmingham City! The former Bluebird is reportedly on the shortlist for the Blues’ Under-21 coaching position after Mark Kennedy’s departure.

Purse, who played a massive 200 games for Birmingham between 1998 and 2004, could be heading back to his old stomping grounds. But Cardiff fans have a lot to thank him for. Since rejoining the club in December 2021, Purse has been key in shaping a group of young talents like Rubin and Joel Colwill, Dylan Lawlor, and Isaak Davies, who have all made strides in the first team and beyond. In fact, five homegrown players who helped seal a 4-0 victory against Doncaster Rovers at the weekend have come through Cardiff’s ranks under his guidance.

These exciting times at Cardiff underline the importance of promoting from within, a strategy that has them top of League One and looking for promotion. Meanwhile, Birmingham’s investment-heavy squad has offered fewer opportunities for academy graduates to shine.
Will Purse return to Birmingham and help nurture their young talent, or will he continue his impactful work with Cardiff’s rising stars? Watch this space for updates! 💙⚽️
