Back in 2011, after the global property crash, Hollioake’s business, Hollioake Group, crumbled under a staggering £13 million debt, leading him to declare bankruptcy. With financial pressure mounting and his family depending on him, Adam took the leap into professional fighting in Australia.
Trading his cricket whites for boxing gloves, Hollioake embraced the fearsome world of mixed martial arts, stepping into the cage to square up against others in thrilling bouts. He said, “Fighting in a cage is nothing compared to the fear of not being able to look after your family.”
Despite the odds, Adam’s resilience shone through. He soon hung up his gloves to pursue coaching, sharing his cricketing wisdom with teams internationally. By 2023, he was coaching Pakistan for their tour of Australia, before heading back to Surrey.
Adam’s story is a testament to adaptability and perseverance. In December 2024, he signed on as head coach for Kent, excited to mould another chapter of success for the team. “It’s an amazing chance to work with a great squad of players,” says Hollioake.
