Welsh sensation Gethin Jones is onto a new adventure! The Morning Live presenter recently revealed he’s been running a secret Instagram account called ‘Geth on a mission’, all to keep tabs on Team Wales’ top athletes ahead of the Commonwealth Games. As the newly appointed chef de mission, Gethin’s been all about understanding the grit, setbacks, and sheer determination of these incredible sportsmen and women.
Ahead of the Games in Glasgow this summer, Gethin took a step back from his usual presenting duties, handing over the reins to some familiar faces, including Greg Rutherford, who filled in for him on BBC Morning Live. Gethin spoke passionately about how inspiring it’s been to witness the sacrifices and journey of the athletes as they prepare to compete.
He said, “I’ve been following all our athletes for the last 12 months, rooting for them through their sacrifices and triumphs. It’s inspiring and pushes me every day!” Despite his clandestine account being more of a watching brief, Gethin admits he’s obsessed with the incredible stories of commitment and perseverance.
Last Friday, he joined sprinter Jeremiah Azu, gymnast Ruby Evans, boxer Owain Harris-Allan, and more at Cardiff Metropolitan University to kick off the King’s baton relay. As roles shuffle due to his new commitment, Gethin is set to lead and motivate Wales’ finest competitors, taking charge as a pivotal figurehead for the team in the coming months.
With a squad ranging from young talents to seasoned athletes, Wales is all set for the Commonwealth spectacle starting on July 23. Gethin’s enthusiasm is infectious as he gears up for his new role, ensuring that Team Wales feels supported and celebrated.
