Disturbing news has emerged from Newport Magistrates’ Court, where Russell Price, a 41-year-old former primary school worker from Caerphilly, admitted to secretly recording a teenage girl for his own gratification. Using hidden cameras in a shower and other locations, Price was able to watch the disturbing footage he recorded. Known locally as a member of a band touring pubs and clubs, Price was also a trusted figure among young people due to his position.

The court heard that Gwent Police arrested Price, who immediately pleaded guilty to a charge of voyeurism. The victim, who remains anonymous for her protection, expressed in a statement that the incident has left her feeling unsafe and constantly watchful. Price’s defence cited mental health struggles since his brother’s passing in 2019, yet emphasised his acceptance of needing severe punishment.

Judge Sophie Toms emphasised the lasting impact on the victim, as Price was sentenced to a 12-month community order with mental health treatment and fitted with an electronic tag for six months. He will also remain on the sex offenders’ register and be under a sexual harm prevention order for a decade. A restraining order ensures he cannot contact the victim for at least 10 years.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking even in trusted community members, urging vigilance and awareness for those around us. Stay safe and look out for one another.
