On Friday, October 3rd, more than 430 pupils, accompanied by friends, family, and supporters, are joining forces for a grand fundraising walk to support leukaemia research. This incredible show of solidarity is expected to attract up to 600 participants, demonstrating a powerful community spirit.

From tiny tots in nursery to Year 13 students, everyone is pitching in. The little ones will enjoy a special walk around the school grounds, while older students embark on a 10km trek to the Hi-Tide and back, singing their own special version of ‘She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain.’ With over £4,000 already raised, they’ve not only surpassed their initial target, but also sent an overwhelming wave of support to Mr. Tunnadine.

Mr. Tunnadine, who is now undergoing clinical trials at The Christie Hospital in Manchester, shared his gratitude: “The treatments keeping me here exist only because of vital leukaemia research. Seeing the community walking together in support means more than I can express. I’m deeply grateful for the care and the incredible kindness shown by everyone at West Park.”

The fundraising event, set during Blood Cancer Awareness Month, not only aims to gather donations but also to raise awareness about the critical need for research. Every penny raised will contribute to developing life-saving treatments for leukaemia. West Park Primary’s headteacher Sarah Morgan beautifully summed up the event: “The sense of community and generosity has been truly inspiring.”
