Former Waste Site in Neath Port Talbot Could Transform into Solar Farm Initiative

Exciting news for Briton Ferry! A new solar farm is in the works on the old Giants Grave Landfill site, near the Parc Newydd playing fields. The proposed project aims to generate up to 6MW of clean energy, making clever use of the unused land. It’s all at an early stage, with plans handed to the council’s planning department for consideration.

The site, owned by Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, spans about 13 hectares and has been sitting quietly since it was capped in the early 2000s. If approved, the solar panels will sit atop concrete blocks without disturbing the landfill cap underneath.

The great part? This project is designed with safety in mind, maintaining a 5m buffer from existing gas infrastructure on the site.
