The EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) is now in full swing, meaning extra border checks for non-EU visitors. Instead of getting stamps in your passport, this system will digitally track when you enter and exit the Schengen area – that’s short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. So, what should you expect? 🤔

– Fingerprints and a photo will be taken the first time you register.
– This applies to all adults and children aged 12 and over.

– Once registered, future crossings should be a breeze – just a quick passport scan and a photo or fingerprint for ID. 📸

Travel expert Simon Calder has chimed in, noting that while the rollout should be complete, there’s a “chance it’s not running smoothly everywhere.” You might only scan your passport, get fingerprinted, or both. But don’t worry, it’s all in place to boost security. 🔒

If you’re travelling through Eurostar, Eurotunnel, or the Port of Dover, expect EES registration before departing the UK. For everyone else, it happens when you arrive in your destination country.

The UK Government estimates these checks take only a few minutes, but do allow extra time at airports and ports – especially if you have connections. 🚉✈️

Remember, this is a significant change, and it’s always a good idea to keep in touch with your transport operator for any updates, particularly if you’re off during the Easter rush. 🐣

For those legally residing in the EU or with dual passports, you’ll need to show your residency documents or EU passport to be exempt from EES.

Get set for a smoother travel experience once you’re all set up! Happy travels! 🇪🇺✨
