π Meet Paul Rock: From IT Whiz to Green Politician! πΏπ»

Paul Rock is no ordinary politician. Once a self-proclaimed “nerdy kid” obsessed with computers, he is now making waves in the world of politics with his surprise leap into the Green Party. Despite his background in IT, the 59-year-old has found a new passion in representing his constituents and advocating for a greener future. π΄ββοΈπ

In May, Paul’s dedication paid off when he made history by becoming one of the first two Green Party members elected to the Senedd. From engaging with schoolkids at their parliament to discussing trains and his bike commute along the Taff Trail, Paul’s approachability makes him stand out in the often combative world of politics.
With a multicultural upbringing in Kent and Lincolnshire, Paul fell into IT after studying physics in Kingston upon Thames. He epitomises the ZX81 generation, having seen the potential of connecting computers long before it became mainstream.
His political journey was sparked by his family’s Christian faith and active engagement in social campaigns like Fairtrade and Make Poverty History. Driven by a desire to be a steward of the environment, his involvement grew from being a school governor to joining the Green Party “almost by surprise.”
Paul’s election story is one of determination and surprise. A polling boost hinted at 11 Green seats, and while only two made it through, it’s the highest number ever, giving him hopes for future growth. He sits alongside Anthony Slaughter, and the duo’s catchy “Rock and Slaughter” moniker might remind you more of a 70s band than a political duoβbut they’re here to make an impact!
With a focus on transport and social justice, Paul is ready to tackle the challenges head-on. His genuine care for the environment and community reflects his belief that Wales has much to contribute in the fight for global social justice. As the Greens set sights on expanding their influence, Paul’s journey is just beginning, and he’s excited for what lies ahead.ππ
