🚨 Shocking Exit! 🚨 Welsh Labour Councillor Helen Cunningham has quit the party with some very strong words for its leadership. Representing Llanhilleth since 2022 and a former deputy leader on Blaenau Gwent council, Cunningham claims the Labour Party has drifted away from its mission to serve “ordinary people.”

In her candid resignation letter, Cunningham expressed deep dissatisfaction with Labour’s current direction. She criticised the lack of vision and democratic processes, saying it fails the people of Blaenau Gwent. This news drops amid growing tension as prominent Labour figures in Wales voice frustrations over handling matters like devolution and resource allocation by the UK Government.
Cunningham accused the party leadership of fostering a toxic environment, ignoring pressing issues like poverty and far-right activities, and downplaying humanitarian concerns in Gaza. She slammed the party’s “lurch to the right,” calling it a “betrayal” to those it vowed to champion.

Despite her departure, Cunningham vows to continue serving her community, upholding the socialist values she was elected on. Joining her on a new path is fellow Blaenau Gwent councillor Sonia Behr, who has also left Labour for the Welsh Green Party, citing Labour’s inadequacy in addressing UK inequality.

These developments come in the wake of criticism from eleven Labour backbenchers, accusing the UK Government of retracting devolution promises. As the political landscape in Wales shifts, all eyes will be on how these bold moves impact the Labour Party and its standing with the people.
