As temperatures soar across the UK, it’s the perfect chance for us to enjoy the sun – but beware, it’s not so great for our furry friends! 🐕🌞 Before you grab the lead and head out, there’s one crucial test every responsible dog owner should know about to protect your pup’s paws.
🐾 The Back of Hand Test: Simply place the back of your hand on the pavement and hold it there for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you to keep your hand down, it’s definitely too hot for your dog’s sensitive paws. Remember, if it’s sizzling for you, it’s potentially harmful to them!
Why it Matters: A dog’s paws can burn easily on scorching surfaces like pavements, artificial grass, and rubber tracks. Even seemingly mild days can lead to road temperatures hitting dangerous highs. An egg can fry at 55 degrees, and pavement heat can climb well past that! 😱
Be Aware: When the ambient temperature is a comfortable 25 degrees, roads can still reach a staggering 52 degrees, enough to cause serious harm. On even hotter days? They can soar to a blistering 62 degrees!
