Government Confirms Continuation of Annual Warm Home Discount Program

Great news for those looking to save on energy bills this winter! 🌟 The Department for Work and Pensions has announced that the Warm Home Discount scheme will be back this year. Eligible households in Wales will receive a £150 discount on their electricity bills to help reduce winter costs.

As autumn arrives, the scheme is set to reopen in October 2026. There are two main ways to qualify: if you’re receiving the Guarantee Credit element of Pension Credit or on a low income. Beneficiaries of certain means-tested benefits like Pension Credit, Universal Credit, or income-related benefits may also be eligible.

Once qualified, the discount is automatically applied to your electricity bill, so there’s no need to apply separately. A wide range of energy suppliers are participating, including British Gas, Octopus Energy, and EDF, amongst others.

Changing suppliers won’t affect your discount eligibility. If your current supplier ceases trading, Ofgem will ensure you’re switched to a new one while retaining your discount.
