Tragic Loss in the River Wye: Remembering Umar Dumbuya 💔
We are deeply saddened to share the news of Umar Dumbuya, an 18-year-old from London, who tragically lost his life during a Duke of Edinburgh expedition in Powys. Umar entered the River Wye in Glasbury on June 30th, and despite extensive efforts by emergency services, he did not survive.
Umar was beloved by all who knew him—a truly kind and caring soul. His family described him as a loving son, brother, and grandson, whose presence brought warmth and laughter to their lives. Remembered for his love of basketball, the gym, and time spent with friends and family, his humour and kindness will never be forgotten. 🌟
His family shared their heartbreak, expressing the indescribable pain of losing someone so dear. They have asked for privacy as they grieve this profound loss, stating, “Umar’s death has left a devastating hole in our family.”
The Duke of Edinburgh Award organisation also voiced their sadness, confirming Umar’s participation in the expedition and pledging support to both his family and those affected by this tragedy. They are collaborating with authorities to understand the circumstances of the incident.
