💔 Heart-Stopping Moment at Rugby Match 💔

A dramatic turn of events unfolded during the All Ireland League play-off between UCC and Shannon. The game, held at Mardyke in Cork, saw UCC second-row Sam O’Sullivan collapse mid-match, sending shockwaves through the rugby community.
Sam, who’s not only the son of Munster’s team doctor but also the cousin of some Ireland national players, experienced a cardiac incident that prompted immediate action. Thanks to the quick response of on-site medical personnel and emergency services, Sam was stabilised and swiftly taken to Cork University Hospital.

An update from UCC President John Fitzgerald brings relief: “Sam is responding well and in expert care. The emergency services were exceptional. Thank you all for your kind messages.”

Shannon RFC also shared their heartfelt support online, extending wishes for Sam’s full and speedy recovery. Both teams and supporters are keeping Sam’s family, teammates, and the club in their thoughts during this challenging time.
The play-off, which was abandoned with UCC leading 31-12, awaits a decision from the All-Ireland League Competitions Committee regarding its outcome.
We’re all hoping for the best for Sam, who has been a stalwart for UCC, holding a record 85 caps in the AIL. His family, including rugby stars and club legends, are rallying for him. 🙏
Stay tuned for further updates, and join us in sending positive vibes to Sam and everyone at UCC. 🏉💪 #RugbyFamily #SupportSam #UCCvsShannon
