BBC presenter and Olympic silver medallist Steve Cram has opened up about the loss of his younger brother, Kevin, who tragically passed away in a Cardiff incident back in 2001. Kevin, only 39, died instantly from a fall while out running. Sadly, his identity remained unknown for two days, intensifying the heartbreak for Steve and his family.

In a touching radio interview, Steve revealed that Kevin had been out for a jog on a warm May evening, wearing just shorts and a vest, with no identification on him. This led to his delayed identification. Steve was informed of his brother’s death at a BBC dinner, where fellow presenter Gabby Logan supported him. She had faced a similar tragedy when her own brother passed away at 15.
Following this personal loss, Steve collaborated with Reebok to launch the CramAlert ID wristband. This innovative device aims to prevent such identification delays by allowing quick access to personal information in emergencies.

Steve has since become a beloved voice in athletics broadcasting, bringing his expertise to the BBC’s coverage of events like the World Indoor Athletics Championships. His partner, Allison Curbishley, also a former Olympic athlete, shares his passion for sport and broadcasting. Together, they manage a media and events company, continuing to contribute both on and off the track.
Despite the challenges, Steve’s resilience and dedication to athletics remain steadfast, inspiring many as he continues to navigate both personal and professional arenas.
