Heartbreaking Boxing Day Tragedy: A devastating fire claimed the lives of Fionnghuala “Nu” Shearman and her two beautiful children, Eve, 7, and Ohner, 4, in the early hours of Boxing Day. The blaze ravaged their home on Brimscombe Hill near Stroud, leaving a community in mourning.

Nu’s husband, Tom, a dedicated Gloucestershire police officer, made valiant efforts to save his family, but the intense flames forced him back. Tom remains hospitalised as emergency services piece together the heartbreaking events. Detective Superintendent Ian Fletcher reports that the fire started on the ground floor, though it’s not considered suspicious.

The Shearman family was well-loved, with Nu being known for her vibrant social media presence and her creative bag-making business, Hide and Hammer. Photos flooding in capture happier times, showcasing a family rooted in love and joy.
This tragedy has shaken not just the local community but the entire police family across the UK. Support is pouring in for Tom from colleagues and friends who are grappling with this unimaginable loss during what should be a festive period.
Firefighter teams worked relentlessly to combat the blaze, described as well-developed and challenging upon their arrival. Nathaniel Hooton, deputy chief fire officer, praised their efforts in trying to save lives and manage the scene.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to Tom and everyone affected by this tragic loss. In times like these, community support and solidarity are vital. Let’s hold those we love a little closer and keep the Shearman family in our hearts.
