Shocking news from North Wales as a ruthless gang has been sentenced for a spree of heartless burglaries targeting the elderly and vulnerable in their homes. Over a period of five months, this gang, consisting of three men and a woman, meticulously spied on their victims before breaking into homes across Wrexham and Flintshire. Their bold scheme even involved the bizarre excuse of searching for a “missing cat” to cover their tracks.

Dubbed Operation Venom, North Wales Police coordinated a detailed investigation revealing the gang’s use of cloned number plates and switched-off phones to avoid detection. After thorough police work, the members were finally apprehended.

In a span of just a few months starting from January 2025, the gang unleashed their terror, with victims often witnessing the shocking burglaries right in front of them. Their haul included cash, valuable jewellery, and sentimental items, leaving their victims traumatised and shaken.
From the elderly couple in Broughton to the local in Penycae catching a glimpse of the crime while on the phone with neighbours, the community bore witness to their outrageous acts before authorities finally stepped in. The gang’s luck ran out when a series of police raids in June led to their arrest. Now, they face the consequences, with sentences totalling nearly ten years behind bars.
Whether it was swiping £5,000 in cash or stealing priceless family heirlooms, the impact on the victims has been profound. Superintendent Mark Williams praised the dedication of his team in dismantling this organised crime group and gave assurance that such offences won’t be tolerated.
This case highlights the bravery and persistence needed to combat crime and protect vulnerable members of our society. Let’s hope this sentencing brings some comfort to the affected families and communities, as justice finally catches up with those who sought to exploit the weak.
