In a chilling case that has stunned Cardiff, Alireza Askari faces sentencing today for the brutal murder of his wife, Paria Veisi. The tragic events unfolded in April last year when Paria, just 37, was reported missing. Her body was discovered days later in a makeshift grave in the garden of their Penylan home, covered by soil, flowers, and concrete.

Originally from Iran, Paria’s last sighting was on April 11, 2025, driving away from her workplace in Canton. Her murder followed a visit to Askari’s home after a call from him, where he fatally stabbed her and then buried her in an area formerly a garden pond.

Assisted by his aunt, Maryam Delavary, Askari attempted to hide his horrific actions. Delavary travelled from London to Cardiff to help clean the crime scene and bury Paria. They then disguised her final resting place with newly purchased flowers and patio slabs.

Askari initially confessed only to manslaughter, later admitting to murder, while Delavary pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice. Prosecutors described the attack as a complete surprise to Paria, who had no defensive injuries.

Heartbreakingly, just after the murder, Askari deceitfully messaged Paria’s employer pretending she was returning to Iran for medical reasons. He even moved her car to further mislead everyone.

Following the confirmation of her death, a large memorial service was held at the Norwegian church in Cardiff Bay, attended by her grieving friends and family. Sara Rezaei, a close friend, shared: “Paria was more than a headline. Her vibrant spirit brought joy to all who knew her.”

As justice is sought for Paria, her tragic story serves as a sombre reminder of the hidden dangers some endure. Stay tuned for live updates on this heartbreaking case.
