First splashed onto Bute Street in April 2021, the ‘My City, My Shirt’ mural portrayed Maimuna Yoncana from Guinea-Bissau with a Cardiff City shirt and her baby bump, aiming to connect ethnic minorities with their city and football club. It resonated deeply with locals, symbolising pride in Cardiff’s rich heritage.

After its controversial defacement in 2021, followed by a brief stint as a canvas for a McDonald’s ad, the mural bounced back each time due to public demand and support. But now, it’s vanished, and the community is once again left asking, “Where did our mural go?”

The artwork’s soulful presence was more than just about football; it was a nod to Cardiff’s oldest black community in Butetown, telling everyone, “You’re proudly Cardiff, no matter your background.” 🏴‍☠️
