🏅 Honours List Update 🎖️

The 2026 New Year Honours list has dropped, and there are some big names on it! Actor and rapper Idris Elba has been knighted for his incredible work with youth empowerment and anti-knife crime campaigns. Legendary ice dancer Christopher Dean also received a knighthood, while his skating partner Jayne Torvill was awarded a damehood. Comedian Meera Syal joined the ranks too! 👏

In the sporting world, England’s Women’s Euros-winning captain Leah Williamson bagged a CBE, with her teammates receiving OBEs. The Women’s Rugby World Cup team also celebrated, with coach John Mitchell and players Marlie Packer and Zoe Aldcroft honoured. 🎉
Even Welsh rugby star Jonathan ‘Jiffy’ Davies was recognised with a CBE for his awesome charity work. However, the buzz on the street is about Kevin Sinfield being notably absent from the list. Despite raising over £11 million for motor neurone disease research and support, the rugby league icon missed out on a knighthood this time. Sinfield’s been a hero since his pal Rob Burrow was diagnosed, and his gruelling ultramarathon efforts even got a nod from Prince William. 🤝
With protocol rules dictating the upgrades of honours, Sinfield, who recently got a CBE, might have to hang tight until next year for knighthood eligibility. Yet, public support, including from Piers Morgan, pushes for the rules to be waived for his selfless dedication. 🙏
