🚨 “I felt breathless, but nobody took me seriously!” 🚨

Meet Nick Jones, a gutsy student who battled a monstrous tumour the size of a rugby ball, wedged in his chest and weaving around his heart. 😱

🎓 On a placement in London during the 2021 lockdown, 22-year-old Nick from Caerphilly struggled to get a GP appointment. His breathlessness was dismissed as low iron. It turned out to be much worse: cancer.
🩺 Nick had to push to finally get seen, waiting over two months for a diagnosis. By then, the tumour had devastated his lungs and heart, leading to a whirlwind of treatment.
🌟 The dedication of Nick and his incredible team can’t be overstated. The Grange Hospital took him in for urgent tests and treatment. Chemotherapy followed, then a game-changing stem cell transplant from his brother, Sam.
🏃♂️ Nick didn’t let cancer hold him back. In April 2022, he smashed the London Half Marathon, and in 2023, the full marathon, without knowing three new tumours were growing. After his transplant, triumph! Nick is now a thriving cardiac physiologist.
🎗 His journey underscores the urgent need for a dedicated cancer strategy for young people in Wales. Primary care access is crucial—young ages don’t mean invincible. 🛑
The Teenage Cancer Trust highlights that Wales lacks a comprehensive cancer strategy, leaving it with some of Europe’s poorest outcomes. The group is urging the Welsh Government to act and change the narrative for young cancer patients. 📢
Nick’s story is a reminder: life is precious. Live it to the fullest! 🎉💪
Let’s push for change so more young lives can be saved—because everyone deserves to be taken seriously.
