Exciting news in the rugby world! Former Wales fly-half and British & Irish Lion Stephen Jones is taking on a new adventure as senior assistant coach for the Newcastle Red Bulls. From next month, Jones will be spearheading the club’s backs and attack under head coach Alan Dickens. With Red Bull completing their ownership in August 2025, the rebranded Newcastle Red Bulls are hungry for success, and Jones is set to add his wealth of experience to their journey.

Jones has a remarkable coaching résumé, having worked at international level with Wales, in the Premiership with Wasps, the URC with the Scarlets, and more recently with Moana Pasifika in Super Rugby. His time with Moana Pasifika saw stunning victories over major teams like the Crusaders and Blues, transforming them into formidable contenders.

Jones expressed his excitement, saying, “Joining Newcastle Red Bulls at this crucial time is thrilling. The team has enormous potential and ambition, and I can’t wait to start working with the passionate fans and build strong relationships with staff and players.”
Thanks are in order to Moana Pasifika for facilitating Jones’s move closer to home. Tana Umaga, the head coach of Moana Pasifika, praised Jones as both a talented coach and a remarkable individual. He even amusingly noted that Jones handles a beer better than most!
Stephen Jones, originally from Carmarthen, boasts 104 caps for Wales, standing as the nation’s second-highest all-time points scorer. He also played a pivotal role in leading the Scarlets to the 2017 Pro12 title and in helping Wales secure the Six Nations and Triple Crown in 2021.
With such stellar credentials and experience, fans are eager to see how Jones will steer Newcastle Red Bulls to new heights in the English rugby scene. Welcome to the North, Stephen! 🌟🏉🥳
