🚨 ELY RIOTS SENTENCING 🚨
A night of intense chaos hit the Cardiff suburb of Ely in 2023, following the tragic deaths of teenagers Kyrees Sullivan and Harvey Evans. Residents found themselves in the middle of a riot described as the worst the city has seen in a generation.
What went down? Cars upturned and set ablaze, and missiles like bricks, bottles, and even petrol bombs, were launched at the police. The tension sparked debates, including concerns about a police van that had reportedly been following the boys earlier that day. The Police Watchdog continues to investigate.
Fast forward to the sentencing: 30 individuals are now facing the consequences of their actions during that night of turmoil. Let’s meet a few of them:
1. **Ashdon O’Dare** – Described as an instigator, O’Dare was at the heart of the chaos, escalating the violence. Deeply affected by the deaths, he claimed his actions were impulsive.
2. **Jamie Jones** – A missile thrower who reacted strongly to rumours about the boys’ deaths, adding fuel to the fire.
3. **Matthew Evans** – Seen setting fire to a car with an aerosol, his actions defined the Ely riots’ visuals. Now a father, he has changed since that night.
4. **Cameron Carter** – Known for throwing large missiles and leading a group that tipped over a car, Carter regrets his involvement as he steps into the future as a business owner and father.
5. **Ryan Knight** – Prolific in his actions, Knight openly challenged authority, deeply driven by grief and anger over the loss of his close friends.
Each of these individuals has been shaped by their backgrounds and the overwhelming emotions of that night. As they face sentencing, many of them grapple with complex personal histories, mental health struggles, and shattered lives.
