Traffic Updates
The wildfire, active since Sunday, has taken a toll on the Welsh mountainside, leaving behind blackened earth and causing widespread smoke problems. Communities as far as Cardiff and Newport have reported catching a whiff of the thick smoke due to changing wind directions. Local authorities remind everyone to keep doors and windows shut and recommend switching car air conditioning to recirculation mode if travelling.

Public Health Wales has stepped in, advising residents to stay indoors if they notice any eye irritation or find themselves coughing and wheezing from the smoke. The Welsh Government is on alert too, having activated crisis management plans due to the spate of wildfires recently.

Amidst the chaos, the heroic efforts of fire crews, armed with 4×4 vehicles, drones, and other specialist equipment, continue to battle the blaze. They’re not alone, as local farmers have generously offered their vehicles to lend a hand. Despite these efforts, the challenging terrain and varying weather conditions make it an uphill task to bring the situation under control.

Tragically, local farmers are reporting massive losses of common land—somewhere between 40-60%. With the Ministry of Defence currently unable to dispatch helicopters, ground crews remain crucial in this fight.
