Imagine being told your dining area could soon double as a loo! Sandra Robinson, a disabled tenant, was taken aback when informed that a cloakroom would be built in her living room. She had hoped for an extension, like the one she saw at a nearby home, but that isn’t an option according to the council.

“What’s next, dinner by the loo?” Sandra quipped, as she expressed her discomfort over potentially using the toilet while family and friends are over. The thought of rearranging her dining setup hasn’t sat well with her either.

The council explained that using internal space for adaptations is a common practice due to budget constraints and the high demand for disabled facilities grants. Unfortunately, an extension remains a last resort.
After living in her Penllergaer council house for 29 years, Sandra wants a more dignified solution. With limited mobility and a stairlift that she wishes moved faster, she needs a practical solution. Her local councillor, Tony Fitzgerald, is supporting her in finding a better alternative. Will there be a way to expand beyond the kitchen without sacrificing living space? Sandra certainly hopes so!
