Pensioners, listen up! If you’ve overpaid tax on your pensions, there’s a way to get your money back. HMRC has clarified the best process for recovering those excess payments. One concerned pensioner recently revealed they were taxed “thousands” over what was necessary!

Here’s the scoop: since we’re close to the end of the tax year, HMRC suggests waiting to file your Self Assessment return from 6th April 2026. This timing was recommended to ensure a smooth refund process. Remember, the tax year wraps up on 5th April each year.

Big changes are on the horizon for everyone next April 2026. The ‘Making Tax Digital’ initiative will mean some folks need to join in and start filing regular digital returns. This affects self-employed workers and landlords earning over £50,000.
Dividends are seeing a shift too. Rates jump by two percentage points, lifting the ordinary rate to 10.75% and the upper rate to 35.75%. The additional rate stays put at 39.35%.
And watch out for pension adjustments! State pension payments will rise by 4.8% with the triple lock policy, which ensures payments grow according to whichever is highest: 2.5%, inflation, or average earnings. Starting April 2026, the state pension age will incrementally increase, set to reach 67 by April 2028. The age for accessing private pensions will also change, rising to 57 by the same year.
Stay informed and prepared for these shifts, and remember to keep track of key dates for a stress-free financial future! Share this post with anyone who might benefit from these important updates! 💷🗓️
