An inquest has opened into the tragic death of John Anthony Mongan, a 49-year-old man who sadly lost his life in Welshpool town centre. The incident occurred on Church Street at 1:16 am on Sunday, June 28. Following this tragic event, a young man, Martin Slezak, 22, from Welshpool, has been charged with murder.


During the inquest at Pontyridd Coroner’s Court, assistant coroner Andrew Morse shared that Mongan, originally from Ennis, County Clare in Ireland, lived in Walsall. The inquest is currently on hold as police continue their investigations into this heartbreaking case.
