Iran has once again shut down the Strait of Hormuz, accusing the US and Israel of violating a ceasefire agreement. This critical passageway facilitates around 20% of global oil and natural gas trade. The closure follows intense Israeli air strikes on Lebanon, which have caused heartbreaking devastation, claiming at least 16 lives recently, including two children, and leaving some trapped beneath the debris.

Broadcasting over state television, Iran’s officials have urged maritime traffic to steer clear of the strait, warning of jeopardised safety otherwise. Just earlier this week, vessels had resumed passing through the strait amidst an interim peace deal between Washington and Tehran. However, Iran now claims both nations have breached their commitments.

The strait’s closure comes amid fierce clashes between Israel and Hezbollah, leading to numerous casualties on both sides. Israeli military sources report hitting multiple Hezbollah positions while Hezbollah accuses Israel of violating the ceasefire, vowing to resist further incursions.
According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, since the conflict erupted on March 2, over 3,900 people have lost their lives, with more than 11,600 injured in Lebanon. The situation has displaced about one million residents, leaving many southern communities in ruins.
As tensions escalate, the world watches closely, hopeful for a resolution that will prevent further tragedy. Stay tuned for updates on this rapidly unfolding situation. Stay informed, stay connected.
