A fed-up grandad from Pontyberem has taken matters into his own hands at Johnstown Park, Carmarthen! Concerned about nails sticking out from the park’s perimeter fence, Nigel Drean grabbed a hammer after waiting for council action for nearly a year. Those pesky nails, sticking dangerously outwards, were a real worry for Nigel, especially with his grandkids visiting. He tried pulling them out but ended up flattening them just to keep everyone safe.

Nigel, who has grandchildren at Johnstown Primary and Queen Elizabeth High, has been reporting this hazard to the town council for months. Despite polite responses, the issue dragged on until he took initiative. Good news, though! The council announced an upcoming fence replacement, with a hefty budget of £12,835 approved. Let’s hope work begins soon so everyone can enjoy the park safely.

Nigel’s not about making trouble; he just wants a safe space for kids and grown-ups alike. Here’s to proactive grandads keeping our community safe! 🌳🔨 #CommunityHero #StaySafeCarmarthen
