Keely Hodgkinson had her sights set on the top podium, but Tokyo had a different plan. Despite a sensational return from a year of injuries, Keely settled for a well-earned bronze in the 800m at the World Championships. Her journey, filled with ups and downs, saw her miss out on gold by a whisker. Training partner Georgia Hunter-Bell snagged silver, edging Keely in a nail-biting finish – just 0.01 seconds ahead!

Reflecting on her turbulent year, Keely admitted it’s been nothing short of a “s**t show.” Injuries plagued her after Olympic gold last summer, including a torn hamstring that forced her from the Keely Klassic and even back pain en route to her MBE ceremony! Yet, her resolve never wavered. She stormed back to form with a world-leading time in Poland, proving her resilience time and again.

Keely candidly shared that she’s drawing comfort from her medal, viewing setbacks as part of her incredible journey. Despite the limited race time pre-Tokyo, she gave her best and took pride in her efforts.

On the other hand, Hunter-Bell’s story is one of remarkable comeback and perseverance. Initially stepping away due to injuries while studying in the US, she found her stride again during the pandemic. Swapping cybersecurity for athletics, she took silver, adding another feather to her cap. Her personal best performance moved her to ninth on the all-time 800m list!
While Keely and Georgia’s paths have been different, their resilience and tenacity shine. Both athletes have shown that anything is possible with hard work and determination. Here’s to them writing the next chapters of their extraordinary careers! 🥇🥈🥉💪
